Andreas Scholl’s extraordinary voice brought many people to so-called 'early
music' for the first time. His core
repertoire is music of the late Renaissance and,
more especially, of the Baroque: roughly 1600 to
1750. The range of composers whose work he
has recorded is wide and if you don’t know what
to buy next, this list may help. The
'Listen' score is merely our opinion, offered to
those not very familiar with the Baroque alto
repertoire. Listen-1 means 'newcomers
usually like this at first hearing'.
Listen-5 means 'perhaps a bit more obscure but
you'll be glad you stuck with it'.
